Fit Mom Motivation

Meet Fit Mom: Nilika

What do you do outside of YuBalance to help you stay fit? We love hiking as a family at the Lands End Trail or the Marin Headlands, riding our bikes in Golden Gate Park, and playing on the beach! Love playing tennis when I get the chance.

Favorite class (or exercise), why? YuSweat and Body Sculpt the most as they push me to try harder.

Favorite time to workout, why? Weekend mornings! Love that the kids can have a lazy morning on the weekends, and I don’t feel rushed. Or, weekday mornings, if I can swing it with my work day.

What keeps you coming back? I feel great after a single workout, and feel stronger overall the more I come to YuBalance. Feels like an investment in my health and in my future.

Occupation & interests outside of fitness? I’m a pediatric neurologist / epilepsy specialist. I am also a  wife and mom of 3; our active kids keep us busy!

Ultimate health & fitness goals? I hope to stay healthy and strong, hope to live free of injury; hope to be able to enjoy hiking and tennis for decades to come.

Do you have any tips for people who are just getting started? Just keep going, even 1-2 times per week will definitely have an amazing impact on your mental and physical health.

Meet Fit Mom: Eva

What do you do outside of YuBalance to help you stay fit? I get at least 10K steps just about every day walking my dog around the Richmond District and at Baker Beach. I also love to play basketball with my 10 year old son and to bike all over the place. And dance parties in the living room.

Favorite class , why? I am completely in love with deadlifts and kettlebell swings but love just about anything repetitive with weights. A good old school hip hop song and some 15 pounders and I’m in heaven.

Favorite time to workout, why? Because of my schedule I can only come at 8am and noon – which has been perfect! I get a nice mix of workouts and I try to come 6 days a week. Sometimes 7! The Sunday morning classes are great because the farmers market is just outside when we finish.

What keeps you coming back? The trainers are great. Really great, super motivating and they check in on how you are doing, how’s your sore foot, how’s your kid…They play fun music and get silly while kicking our butts hard. Also, I feel strong and I can see the progression in my fitness level from week to week. My arms are more defined, I am starting to have developed abs which I thought would never happen as an “older” mom. If I want to focus on a certain area they will give me pointers on what I can do at home on my own.

Occupation & interests outside of fitness? I work in environmental policy in SF and the Bay Area and am focused on environmental justice and climate action – access to clean water, clean air and healthy unwrapped food. I love to cook and am very slowly and lazily writing a healthy plant based cookbook for families.

Meet Fit Mom: Christine

What do you do outside of YuBalance to help you stay fit? I like to run 5K’s (working up to 10K’s by Fall 2023) and go on urban hikes, by way of Ocean Beach and GG Park. I can go for hours with a friend or a good audiobook.

Favorite YuBalance class? I like YuFit and YuSweat the best, but will go for Ball Method and Body Sculpt to hit all the muscle groups.

Favorite time to workout, why? My favorite time to work out is 7am. I love to go early as the workout improves my mood and mental focus for the day ahead; same can be said for the morning crew at the Richmond!

What keeps you coming back? I keep coming back for the encouragement of the trainers, the great community and the workouts that continue to challenge me even though I do them regularly.

Occupation & interests outside of fitness? Currently I work for an architect, but I enjoy cooking and event planning as side hustles. I volunteer for the Ferry Plaza Farmers market and SFFILM because I love food and film.

Ultimate health & fitness goals? Ultimate fitness goal is to not ever feel like I can’t do a physical activity I like because I’m out of shape.

Do you have any tips for people who are just getting started? The great thing about the Yubalance workout is that it is so customizable.  If you are just starting out, use lighter weights, or do fewer reps, or a less strenuous modification.
